Total seclusion, silence, and fasting. Does this sound like a place for a fifteen year old girl? This lifestyle would only be a dream for a fifteen year old who looks at the Carmelite vocation not as a mortification, but a way to give all her love to God.
This was the desire that God placed in the heart of St. Therese of Lisieux at a very young age. Even though she was the youngest daughter of the family, a little spoiled, and extremely sensitive, she decided in her teenage years to radically love Jesus through the ordinary frustrations and tasks of daily life. This is what she called her little way; placing her entire life into the hands of God, trusting that he would carry her straight to holiness.
Therese of Lisieux is definitely a saint for young people. Even though she was young, she never let her age stop her from loving Christ. She teaches us to take sanctity into our own hands.
