Where does the name "Ancora" come from?
Dear Benny the Bear, The other day I was wearing an Ancora shirt when one of my friends asked me what Ancora is. I told her what it is and then she commented on how "Ancora" is such a cool and attractive name. Then, she asked me where it came from.I didn't really know how to answer. Where does the name "Ancora" come from?
Benny: The name Ancora comes from a Latin word, “Anchor,” which means to be anchored. The first Christians used this symbol as a way of showing that they were anchored in Christ, the Rock that will never move or change. The name Ancora was chosen for this alliance of girls because we want to be anchored in the Pope, anchored in the Church, and anchored in Christ.
Ask Benny the Bear any questions you might have about Ancora, the Pope, the Church, or vocations and see them answered here on the Ancora website. Just email your questions to ancorausa@arcol.org. |
